Fund Your Tax Free Retirement Account with Bad Habits!
I was waiting in line today at the store and the gentleman ahead of me purchased 2 packs of cigarettes which cost him $10.40. As I was standing in line behind him waiting to purchase my diet soda which costs me $1.50 each, I remembered that I had forgotten to pack my lunch today.
Hmmm… the local restaurant sounds like a good idea today, I thought. Let’s see. If I order modestly, that will cost me about $11.00 with the tip included. It was then that I noticed the woman in the checkout line to my right had just purchased $20 worth of lottery tickets… she smiled at the cashier and said “see you next week”.
After leaving the store, I stopped at my favorite coffee shop and ordered a Latte. “$3.95, please,” requested the cashier. I started to add up the costs of those bad habits in my head and I quickly realized that if we could take just one of our bad habits and instead contribute that money to a Roth IRA each year, we could build a substantial tax free retirement fund.
So, which of your bad habits are you going to turn into a tax free retirement fund?
